Regarding the production of exportable items, agriculture accounts for half of Tanzanian exports. Furthermore, an analysis of domestic resource cost (DRC) ratios reveals that Tanzania has a strong comparative advantage in maize, paddy, and all the traditional export crops. Non-traditional export crops such as cut flowers may be highly profitable niche activities, but typically cannot provide the overall employment numbers and thus consumption linkages that the traditional export crops can, because of higher capital requirements and more difficult access to markets.
